Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) along with strategic partners have launched the 'Women in Conflict Zones' initiative to overcome negative results such as lack of education, healthcare and basic skills, that rise with crises.
The announcement came Friday on the sidelines of 77th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, according to a series of tweets from official Qatar News Agency.
'The initiative will offer a platform to highlight prominent issues such as marginalisation, poverty and inevitable outcomes of armed conflicts,' HE the Assistant Foreign Minister Lolwah bint Rashid AlKhater said on the occasion.
QFFD director general Khalifa bin Jassem al-Kuwari explained that the initiative seeks to empower women through positive change in conflict zones, provide more protection and encouragement to participate in the economic cycle.
'We launched the initiative to confront existing violence based on social discrimination and sexual harassment and guarantee fundamental rights for women and girls in conflict zone,' he said.
Addressing the event, the UN Development Programme administrator Achim Steiner thanked Qatar for launching the initiative to support women in conflict zones around the world and respond to women's needs during crisis.
