Cairo, Sept. 22 (Petra) - Minister of State for Media Affairs, Faisal Shboul, on Thursday participated in the 52nd round of the Council of Arab Information Ministers, held at Egyptian capital, Cairo.
Delivering a speech at the meeting, he said a 'key' media challenge is related to the central and core Arab issue, the Palestinian cause, represented in the media siege to block content published to support Palestinian rights on social media platforms under flimsy justifications.
Defending content in support of the Palestinian cause on global social platforms is a component of the digital diplomacy proposal submitted by Jordan to the Arab League, he said.
This proposal received Arab countries' support and benefited 'remarkably' from Arab visions and was approved by Council of Arab Information Ministers, he noted.
The minister noted 'media is a weapon in turmoils ravaging the region and the Arab world, which was adversely affected by digital revolution and direct effects of the social media challenge'.
In this regard, he warned against late untimely response to these media challenges to avoid another setback in defending Arab key issues, culture and human image in a changing and volatile world.
Impartial professional media is the right of the public everwhere, he said, calling on Arab collective action to protect private Arab media outlets from bankruptcy risks, which would help emergence of alternative channels that do not recognize media-related rules, laws and charters.
On solutions to media-based hurdles , Shboul urged governments to cooperate with scientific institutes, civil society institutions and the media to address this new reality by focusing on three tracks.
The first track focuses on media education to young people in schools, while the second targets universities and the last aims to launch regulatory frameworks for social media platforms to protect the public and operating organizations in this sector, he added.
