(MENAFN- UkrinForm) Energy Minister of Ukraine Herman Galushchenko during a meeting with U.S. Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm discussed sanctions against the Russian State Corporation Rosatom.
This was reported by the Ministry of Energy , according to Ukrinform.
The parties paid special attention to the situation of the Zaporizhia NPP, the outcome of the IAEA mission's visit to the plant, and further steps to demilitarize the area.
'Galushchenko emphasized that the Russian State Corporation Rosatom is directly involved in aggression against Ukraine, covering up acts of nuclear terrorism,' the Ministry of Energy reports.
Galushchenko noted that the Cabinet of Ministers had already filed with the National Security and Defense a motion calling for sanctions on more than 700 individuals and legal entities affiliated with Rosatom.
'The response of the civilized world should be the introduction of sanctions against Rosatom and the rejection of the aggressor's nuclear technologies not only in new projects, but also in those already launched,' Galushchenko said.
For her part, Granholm expressed full support for Ukraine in the issue of deoccupation of the ZNPP and its return under the full control of a legitimate Ukrainian operator.
The meeting also discussed preparation for the upcoming heating period in Ukraine and optimal ways of international support for Ukraine in gas procurement.
As reported, IAEA Director General Raphael Grossi announced the start of negotiations with Ukraine and the Russian Federation regarding the parameters of the safety zone around the Zaporizhia NPP.
ZNPP, Europe's largest nuclear power plant, has been seized by the Russian military since March 4. Since then, the invaders have placed military equipment and ammunition on the NPP site, as well as kept on shelling the surrounding area. The Russians also open fire at the NPP premises, destroying power lines, causing power units to shut down, at the same time blaming the Armed Forces for these attacks.
