Drive Launched Against Heavy Vehicles Parking In Doha City

To ensure hygiene at public places and improve aesthetic view of the city, the Ministry of Municipality represented by Doha Municipality, has launched a massive campaign against parking of trucks and buses at undesignated places in Doha city.

“The parking of heavy vehicles including trucks and buses in Doha city is prohibited. A number of areas have been designated where trucks, buses and equipment can be parked, such as Al Majd Road, Salwa Road, Al Saylia Area, Industrial Area and Al Wakra City,” said Hamad Sultan Al Shahwani, Head of the General Monitoring Section at Doha Municipality. 

Al Shahwani was speaking at an introductory meeting organised with community representatives yesterday.

Speaking to The Peninsula, Al Shahwani said:“We launched a campaign against parking trucks and buses in Doha city. So far, the municipal inspectors have made visits to four places, where they issued warning tickets to 360 trucks, buses and equipment for being parking in undesignated areas.”

He said the warning tickets are issued to notify the owners to move their heavy vehicles to designated parking areas within a week from the date of notification to avoid legal action, which invites fines of up to QR25,000. The introductory meeting was attended by a number of representatives of expatriate communities to reach out to the community members seeking their roles in implementing public hygiene law to ensure health and safety of people. 

Addressing the event, Director of Doha Municipality, Mansour Ajran Al Buainain, said the meeting with community leaders aimed to engage all community members to serves the public interest, improve quality of life and achieve highest safety standards, maintain the urban landscape of cities and public places, and reduce visual pollution. 

“Doha Municipality held this meeting to announce that it is carrying out an awareness campaign against occupying public places including squares, streets and sidewalks with abandoned vehicles and temporary buildings without a license,” said Al Buainain.

He said the campaign aimed at preserving the beauty and cleanliness of the city, and introducing the provisions of Law No. 18 of 2017 on public hygiene, to influence public behaviour, and instilling sense of responsibility among all members of the community.

Director of Municipal Control Department at Doha Municipality, Salem Al Shafi, said the event falls within the Ministry's work strategy based on the vision and directives of the Minister of Municipality towards opening community dialogue and joint work between the municipal sector to serve the purpose.

Al Shahwani called residents to throw wastes at designated places, avoid labour camps inside family residential areas and maintain hygiene at rooftops and balconies. Head of the Technical Control Department, Khalid Al Hajri gave a presentation explaining the damages caused by the phenomenon of villa partitions and labour camps inside family residential areas.
