LONDON — Seven independent agencies have set up the Space Communications Alliance, the first global PR and marketing network dedicated to working with clients across the fast-growing space industry.

The Space Communications Alliance (SCA)'s aim is to connect private companies and public sector organisations across the space and aeronautics technology industry with customers and partners through integrated public relations, content marketing and social media campaigns.

One of the founding agencies in the network is UK-based Spreckley Partners, which works with clients including satellite manufacturers and aeronautic firms and has recently set up a dedicated spacetech division. CEO Richard Merrin said SCA's members would offer a full service from strategic PR planning and client counsel to creative content development.

The latest UK government statistics estimate the value of the international space industry at £155 billion, set to rise to £400 billion by 2030. Merrin told PRovoke Media:“This growth is powered by technology, 5G, the internet of things and humankind's drive to go back to the Moon, as well as innovations from Elon Musk and others, looking at Mars and space tourism. I'm unbelievably excited to be pulling together such passion and experience, so space clients can talk to us about everything from brand strategy and positioning to communicating on any channel.”

He added:“A number of us working across the world have had the vision for a long time to do something in the space sector as a very specific vertical, with experts across the marcomms industry who can work together. And we'll be looking for new partners and expanding our geographic reach into new global markets.”

The SCA's inaugural president is Lukasz Wilczynski, former CEO of Polish communications agency Planet Partners, another founding agency in the network. He said:“It has been clear to my mind for some time that there was a huge gap in the market for a dedicated network of marketing communications professionals focused entirely on the space sector.

“This is a market which has been growing in recent years as the space sector has become central to a growing number of countries. Not only is the market itself set to grow at above GDP growth rates but it is a strategic domain for national defence and security, climate change and connectivity.”

The other founding agencies in the network – with a total headcount of around 200 – are: SpaceWatch.Global in Germany, a digital portal covering all aspects of the space industries, including space policy, exploration, missions, weapons and technology; creative, digital and content agency Perihelion, based in Austria, the home of the United Nations Office of Outer Space Affairs, whose specialisms include space law and policy for clients including established national and international space stakeholders and start-ups; IT Comunicación in Spain, whose clients include space tourism pioneers, ultra-secure satellite communications and connectivity super-applications companies; Red.Comm in Greece, which handles integrated communications for information technology and cybersecurity clients; and Spaceside in Estonia, an online marketing and social media agency run by space social media influencer Remco Timmermans.

The SCA is officially launching at the 73rd International Astronautical Congress (IAC) being held in Paris from 18-22 September.
