Seminar Tackles Investment Prospects In India

Amman, Sept 12 (Petra) -- Jordanian Businessmen Association (JBA) President Hamdi Tabbaa Monday discussed with Indian Ambassador to Jordan Anwar Haleem investment opportunities in India, mainly in Uttar Pradesh state.
During a seminar organized by the JBA in cooperation with the embassy, Tabbaa noted that Jordan has historical economic relations with India, as commercial partnerships between the business community on both sides are constantly developing, and the trade volume between the two countries amounting to about $1.4 billion in 2020.
He pointed to the many successful Indian ventures in Jordan, which took advantage of the competitive Jordanian investment environment, as Indian investments in the garment and phosphate sectors are estimated at $1.3 billion and India ranks tenth among countries with investments in the Amman Stock Exchange at the value of $572 million.
Tabbaa said there are about 25 Indian garment factories with an investment volume of about $300 million that employ some 10,000 workers.
He also pointed to the cooperation agreements that Jordanian universities have signed with the Indian side, including information technology and cybersecurity training programs.
For his part, the Indian envoy commended the JBA's efforts with the embassy to promote economic ties, and voiced hope that trade exchange between the two countris will omprove, particularly after the coronavirus pandemic.
