Algeria, France Ink Declaration To Renew Partnership

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ALGIERS, Aug 27 (KUNA) -- Algeria and France on Saturday agreed five deals to promote cooperation, including the 'Algiers declaration for renewed partnership,' inked by Algerian Abdelmadjid Tebboune and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron.
The documents include an agreement on cooperation with Pasteur Institute, an enhanced partnership in scientific research between the ministries of higher education of both countries and a memorandum of understanding between the ministries of youth and sports, according to a statement from the Algerian Presidency.
The deals are the fruit of the three-day highly successful visit to Algeria by President Macron, said President Tebboune at a joint press conference at Algiers Airport ahead of Macron's departure.
He added that they agreed to set up a joint committee of historians within 15 days to address the national memory file from the historical approach, rather than the political one.
On his part, Macron hailed as firm and deep-rooted relationship between his country and Algeria, voicing hope for even stronger ties in all areas.
He noted that the issue of national memory has been among the issues that hindered the progress of the relationship. (end)
