Qatar Diabetes Association Concludes Himmtak Ma'ana 2 Programme

Doha: Qatar Diabetes Association, a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science, and Community Development concluded yesterday the activities and events of the second edition of the programme (Himmtak Ma'ana) Show Your Zeal with Us.

The event attracted a wide audience that participated in its various events and learned more about diabetes and ways to prevent type II diabetes.

The programme was a competition between five groups of volunteers of the Qatar Diabetes Association who have planned and implemented events for diabetes under the supervision and support of the association. 

Among the goals of the programme was to increase communication between the Qatar Diabetes Association and its volunteers, and to benefit from their expertise and efforts in raising awareness about diabetes. Sponsorship of the programme was provided by Dolphin Energy Limited.

The three-week programme began on July 24 and included five educational, awareness-raising, sports, and recreational activities to raise diabetes awareness.

Diabetes Our Friend was the first event. Held in collaboration with Aspire Zone Foundation, it targeted the category of children living with diabetes. The second event (Swalifna Sukkar) aimed at the young people living with diabetes in cooperation with Katara Foundation. 

The Walk of Life's programme was dedicated to the Indian community in Qatar and included competitive sports events among the athletes of the community at the Lusail Grand Hall.

The Blue Squad programme was directed to the category of workers living with diabetes in addition to the general public in cooperation with Safari Mall management.

The last event was the (Diabetes in Your Hands) programme, which is aimed at the category of women with gestational diabetes in cooperation with the Diabetes Department at Hamad Corporation and with Wifaq Family Consulting Centre in Lusail.

In addition to enjoying the range of recreational and educational activities, the participating audience also received the assessment of blood sugar checking, weight, and height with tailored recommendations to the public.

Dr. Abdullah Al Hamaq, Executive Director of Qatar Diabetes Association, said:“Education to protect tomorrow is the theme of the second year of the World Diabetes Day 2021-2023 campaign, and therefore most of our activities focus on highlighting improving access to diabetes education and raising awareness of it and how to prevent type 2 diabetes.”
