(MENAFN) Tuesday's UEFA Champions League playoff game between Trabzonspor and Copenhagen ended in a 2-1 Copenhagen victory, but the Turkish squad still had optimism.
Viktor Claesson, a Swedish midfielder for the home team Copenhagen, scored the game's first goal in the ninth minute at Parken Stadium.
In the 48th minute, Trabzonspor's far post goal by Danish midfielder Lukas Lerager gave his club a 2-0 advantage.
Greek midfielder Anastasios Bakasetas of Trabzonspor attempted to score from outside the penalty area, but the ball was diverted by a player from Copenhagen and misjudged by the goalkeeper before entering the net.
After Bakasetas' goal in the 79th minute, the score was now 2-1.
Trabzonspor fell short in Denmark, but they didn't give up on their chances in Turkey.
Copenhagen, who held on for a narrow victory, are going to play a match in Trabzonspor at Senol Gunes Spor Kompleksi in the playoffs' second leg on the 24th of August.
The winning club of this tie is going to move forward to the UCL group stage, which is going to begin on the 6th of September.
