Fath Al Khair 5 concluded its voyage for 2022, arriving in Barcelona after a long journey on the Mediterranean that was launched on July 4 with the participation of 17 Qatari sailors headed by Captain Mohamed al-Sada.
Starting in Malta, the dhow passed through ports in Italy and France before reaching Spain.
The voyage was organised by Katara – the Cultural Village Foundation, inspired by the legacy of the forefathers and the marine heritage of pearl diving, and how they overcame challenges and hardships for their livelihood.
The cruise also sought to promote the FIFA World Cup Qatar.
Accordingly, a celebration was held in Spain on this occasion in the presence of Katara general manager Prof Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim al-Sulaiti, Qatar's ambassador to Spain Abdulla bin Ibrahim al-Hamar, a number of Arab and foreign envoys and diplomatic officials in Spain, as well as members of the public.
Prof Dr al-Sulaiti stressed the achievements of the Fath Al Khair 5 journey in terms of introducing Qatar's marine heritage and traditions and promoting the upcoming World Cup.
He also appreciated the efforts made by the sailors in overcoming the challenges and dangers throughout the journey.
Similarly, Captain al-Sada expressed happiness at the success of the voyage and accomplishment of its tasks.
He said the journey was highly admired and appreciated by the people of the country through which the dhow passed as well as tourists.
The first journey of Fath Al Khair was launched in 2013 as it toured the GCC coastline, while in 2015 it went to India.
The dhow again visited the GCC coastline in 2017, while in 2019 it went to Turkey and Malta, and in 2022 it travelled from Malta to Spain.
