Russia increases gas supplies to EU country

(MENAFN) A Hungarian official announced on Saturday that the TurkStream pipeline is now carrying more gas to Hungary from the Russian energy giant Gazprom.

The Russian business increased supplies to Hungary by 2.6 million cubic meters per day beginning on Friday and continuing until the remainder of August, according to Tamas Menczer, state secretary for the foreign ministry. The TurkStream pipeline, which transports gas to Hungary via Serbia, is responsible for delivering the additional supplies.

“The Hungarian government had previously decided to purchase some 700 million cubic meters of natural gas in addition to the already contracted volumes,” the official posted on Facebook.

Menczer noted that the country and Moscow are already discussing adding further quantities for September.

Prior to the cold season, Hungary, which depends on Russian gas to a degree of roughly 85%, is attempting to increase its stockpile. Budapest has been vehemently opposed to demands to impose EU restrictions on imports of Russian gas. Viktor Orban, the prime minister of the nation, has also been successful in getting a waiver from the bloc's restrictions on the purchase of Russian crude oil.
