Qatar Working Proactively To Ensure Health For All During FIFA World Cup

Doha: The healthcare sector is ready to play a vital role in supporting delivery of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and provide a comprehensive range of services throughout the tournament. 

The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) will also implement proactive measures to ensure health and safety of participants, according to healthcare leaders. 

The Ministry in a thread of tweets on its official handle has highlighted how health sector is well-prepared for the World Cup.

“The Ministry of Public Health is proud to play its role in supporting the successful delivery of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. Working with our partners in Qatar's healthcare sector, as well as the World Health Organization, FIFA, and Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, we will deliver a comprehensive range of healthcare services throughout the tournament,” said Assistant Minister for Health Affairs at MoPH, H E Dr. Salih Al Marri. 

“The Ministry's role also focuses on protecting the health and safety of all World Cup participants and attendees through proactive health and safety measures, including food safety, health surveillance, COVID-19 protocols, and the regulation and licensing of facilities and health professionals,” he added. 

Official Healthcare Spokesperson for the World Cup and Medical Director of Hamad General Hospital, Dr. Yousef Al Maslamani, said that the healthcare sector is ready to meet the anticipated demand of services throughout the tournament. 

“Healthcare teams at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) will work with our partners in the healthcare sector to provide medical services across a range of venues, including stadiums, fan zones and fan villages, training fields and hotels. Our Ambulance Service and emergency teams will also play a vital role throughout the tournament, meeting an anticipated demand for services due to the influx of visitors during November and December,” said Dr. Al Maslamani. 

According to Executive Director of Operations at Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC), Dr. Samya Ahmad Al Abdulla, healthcare teams at the Corporation are honoured to support Qatar's hosting of the World Cup.

“Our expansion of primary healthcare services in recent years, including the opening of multiple new advanced health centres, will ensure we are able to provide medical care to visiting fans including through our eight urgent care clinics as well as continuing to provide routine and specialist primary care services to Qatar's local population,” she said.

Chair of the Supreme Healthcare Communications Committee and Chief of Corporate Communications at HMC, Ali Abdulla Al Khater said the communications teams at the Ministry, HMC and PHCC are collaborating across the healthcare sector to ensure everyone attending Qatar 2022 is aware of the range of healthcare services available to them.

“We are also working closely with communications teams at the World Health Organization, FIFA, and Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, as part of our partnership, 'Healthy FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 - Creating a Legacy for Sport and Health,' to promote healthy lifestyles and ensure a safe World Cup experience for all,” he said.
