New hybrid strain of virus found in Russia

(MENAFN) A new hybrid strain of virus, which combines the features of the Delta and Omicron variants of the virus, has been detected in Russia, the nation’s consumer health regulator Rospotrebnadzor has stated on Thursday.

Six infections of the so-called ‘Deltacron’ strain have up to now been detected, with five of them recorded in St Petersburg and another one in Moscow, the agency announced, citing information shared on VGARus (Virus Genome Aggregator of Russia).

‘Deltacron’ is now a non-dominant strain of the virus and doesn’t have any major symptoms on the epidemiological situation in Russia, it also stated.

On the words of Rospotrebnadzor, all of the ‘Deltacron’ patients witnessed a light form of the virus, with none of them needing hospitalization.

US genetic scientist Dmitry Pruss has previously updated RBC news agency that the hybrid virus was unique to Russia and might originate in the nation.
