(MENAFN) According to France, the barrier must be lifted in order for Gaza to have long-term peace, and the United Nation and Qatar supported Egypt's attempts at mediation, which led to the cease-fire taking effect on Sunday. The French Foreign Ministry expressed its appreciation for these efforts in a statement on Monday.
The declaration also mentioned that “there will be no lasting stability in Gaza without the lifting of the blockade, together with credible security guarantees for Israel. France is continuing its efforts, along with its European and regional partners, to restore political prospects with a view to a fair and lasting peace.”
In order to avoid a further escalation and more civilian casualties, France urged all parties to adhere to its full implementation.
It urged "for access routes to Gaza to be kept open in the long term, in particular for humanitarian aid and fuel to be allowed to enter, and for the swift transfer of injured and sick people needing treatment." It also offered condolences to the families of the dead.
