Blinken: US wants true relation with Africa

(MENAFN) The US seeks a true relation with Africa, Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced on Monday in South Africa, the first stop on his three-nation Africa journey considered as a bid to counter Russia’s hard work for better effect on the region.

Blinken reached South Africa on Sunday, just a few weeks following Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov went to a four-nation visit to increase backing from African nations.

Blinken, who will also head to the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda, declared the goal of US “engagement is our relationship with Africa.”

“We don’t force countries to choose, we offer choices that are affirmative,” Blinken announced at a joint news session with his South African fellow Naledi Pandor in Pretoria.

South Africa, the US’ main trade partner in Africa, did not take sides in the current Russia-Ukraine conflict, and rejected to accuse Moscow as Washington and other Western nations.
