QCF's Zhu Retains FIDE Post At Chennai Election

Doha: Qatar Chess Federation (QCF) retained its seat in the International Chess Federation (FIDE) after Chen Zhu was re-elected as the Treasurer and a member of the FIDE Council for the next four years during the election which was held on the sidelines of the 44th Olympiad in Chennai, India, yesterday.

Zhu, a former world champion, obtained 152 out of 176 votes during the election.

Zhu expressed her happiness at maintaining her position and the great confidence she received from the members of the FIDE General Assembly, noting that she has a major role when it comes to the development of the game and the improvement of the financial resources of the federation.

For his part, Mohammed Al Madahka, QCF President, expressed his great happiness at the re-election of Zhu. He also noted that her election is a great accomplishment by Qatar, Arab and Asian chess.
