Major US stock indices starts new week with stronger openings


(MENAFN) The main United States market indexes began the new week with stronger openings on Monday.

The S&P 500 gained 23 points, or 0.57 percent, to hit 4,169, whereas the blue-chip Dow increased by 162 points, or 0.5 percent, to start the day at 32,965. Moreover, the heavily tech-focused Nasdaq rose by 105 points, or 0.83 percent, to reach 12,763.

General Electric and Uber each saw their stock prices soared by over 2.5 percent, while Tesla shares rose by 4 percent, and the fear index, usually referred to as the VIX volatility index, increased by 1.7 percent to 21.51. However, the 10-year United States Treasury yield decreased by 1.6 percent to hit 2.796 percent.

To 106.30, the dollar index decreased by 0.3 percent. In relation to the dollar, the euro surged by 0.2 percent to hit USD1.0203. on the other hand, Gold increased by 0.3 percent to reach USD1,780 and silver increased by 2.2 percent to hit USD20.34 as precious metal costs increased.
