Qatar Beat Saint Lucia For 4Th Win At Chess Olympiad

Doha: Team Qatar clinched their fourth victory at the 44th FIDE Chess Olympiad in Chennai, India when they outplayed St Lucia with a score of 1/3.

Qatar team included Federation Master Al Sulaiti Ghanem, International Master Husain Aziz, Al Homaid Abdulla and Erfan Mohamad Firdaus while St Lucia, ranked 148th in the world, consisted of Candidate Master Martyr Reginald, Sixtus Gabriel, Mathurin Nathaniel and Daniel Cyrus.

Qatar have so far recorded wins against Papua New Guinea, Bolivia and Djibouti during the 180-nation event, but suffered defeats against Denmark, Finland, Iraq and South Korea.

Qatar Chess Federation's main objective in participation in the tournament is to gain experience while competing at their best level against top teams. 

Team Qatar also hope to develop their level of play while achieving good results which will help raise their international ranking points.
