President Ranil Wickremesinghe has amended the emergency regulations issued in July.
A gazette notice issued by the President states that the Emergency (Miscellaneous Provisions and Powers) Regulations, No. 1 of 2022 published in Gazette Extraordinary No. 2289/07 of July 18, 2022, as amended by regulations published in the Gazette Extraordinary No. 2289/41 of July 21, 2022, have been amended.
The amendment states:
(1) in paragraph (1) of regulation 11 thereof, by the substitution for the words and figures“360C and sections 364, 365, 365A, 365B, and sections 427 to 446”, of the words and figures“360C,364,408 and sections 410 to 420 and 427 to 446”; and
(2) in subparagraph (e) of paragraph (1) of regulation 12 thereof, by the substitution for the words and figures“360C, 364, 365, 365A, 365B of the Penal Code (Chapter 19); or”, of the words and figures“360C, 364 of the Penal Code (Chapter 19); or”
The amendment comes after the President had separate talks with political party leaders and representatives of the Galle Face protesters last week.
At the meeting with the President, the Opposition had raised concerns over the Emergency regulations. (Colombo Gazette)
