Major energy companies benefit enormously as Britons suffer

(MENAFN) Soaring earnings from energy corporations Shell and Centrica have been portrayed as an "insult" to millions of Britons who are battling with rising costs and the cost-of-living problem, with energy bills projected to reach new highs in the coming months.

“These eye-watering profits are an insult to the millions of working people struggling to get by because of soaring energy bills,” as per General Secretary of the Trades Union Congress Frances O’Grady.

The news comes only a day after millions of people were told that average annual energy costs might reach £3,850 in January, more than tripling from the start of the year.

“Working people are facing the longest and harshest wage squeeze in modern history. It’s time working people got their fair share of the wealth they create, starting with real action to bring bills down,” O’Grady asserted.

Rising energy costs follow Shell's declaration of record earnings of almost £10 billion for the three months from April to June.
