EU Condemns Russia's Activities Around Zaporizhzhia NPP

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) The European Union condemns the military activities of Russian troops near the Zaporizhzhia NPP.

EU High Representative Josep Borrell wrote this on his Twitter account, Ukrinform reports.

“The EU condemns Russia's military activities around Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. This is a serious and irresponsible breach of nuclear safety rules and another example of Russia's disregard for international norms. The IAEA must gain access,” he wrote.

As reported, on the evening of August 5, Russians hit a high-voltage power line at the Zaporizhzhia NPP, and a fire broke out. As a result of damage to power lines, the power unit No. 4 of the NPP was disconnected from the power grid.

Energoatom said that as of the morning of August 6, the ZNPP was operating with the risk of violating radiation and fire safety standards. Enemy fire caused serious damage to a nitrogen-oxygen unit and an auxiliary building. There are threats of a hydrogen leakage and sputtering of radioactive substance. A fire hazard is also high.

Kyiv has repeatedly warned that Russian troops are resorting to 'nuclear blackmail'.

The Zaporizhzhia NPP was seized by Russian forces on March 4.
