(MENAFN) Ukraine's president stated on Sunday that the country's crop might be half as large this year as a result of Russia's invasion.
"Ukrainian harvest this year is under the threat to be twice less," suggesting half as much as usual, President Volodymyr Zelensky posted a tweet in English.
"Our main goal — to prevent global food crisis caused by Russian invasion. Still grains find a way to be delivered alternatively," he highlighted.
Due to a Russian naval blockade of Ukraine's Black Sea ports, Ukraine, a significant worldwide exporter of grains, has failed to deliver its cargo to consumers.
On July 22, an agreement negotiated under the auspices of the United Nations and Turkey ensures safe passage for ships transporting grain out of three southern Ukrainian ports.
Speaking at one of these ports on Friday, Ukraine's infrastructure minister stated that the country was ready to begin transporting grain and that the first ships will leave by the end of the week.
