AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah on Sunday reaffirmed that the ultimate objective of modernising the public sector is to improve services provided to citizens and bolster the efficiency of public administration.
While listening to a briefing on the recommendations of the Committee to Modernise the Public Sector at the conclusion of its mission, King Abdullah urged coordination among state institutions to ensure the implementation of the modernisation roadmap, which includes in its first phase an action plan for the years 2022-2025, according to a Royal Court statement.
At a meeting held at Al Husseiniya Palace with the committee, which is chaired by Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh, His Majesty stressed the need to commit to implementing the recommended reforms and identify the desired targets to bolster the efficiency of the public sector, noting that the government must explain these targets to the public in order gain their buy-in.
The King highlighted public sector modernisation as a key track of modernisation that is highly anticipated by Jordanians, reaffirming that its success is essential for the success of other tracks, especially the economic track.
For his part, Prime Minister Khasawneh noted that the roadmap identified seven pillars as top priorities for improvement and modernisation—public services, procedures and digitalisation, organisational structures and administration, policy and decision-making, human resources, laws, and institutional culture.
The prime minister said these pillars form the framework for the modernisation of the public sector, noting that they focus on serving citizens and improving public services, in line with the outcomes of economic and political modernisation, said the statement.
The implementation of the first phase of the roadmap will conclude in 2025 and its impact will be assessed and reflected onto the second phase, Khasawneh added.
Also at the meeting, committee members spoke about the main pillars of the roadmap, which includes 206 initiatives focused on bringing about qualitative leaps in government services, streamlining and bolstering the efficiency of the public sector, expediting digital transformation, restructuring and merging public institutions, and nurturing excellence and innovation.
