(MENAFN) People who escaped the fighting in the east and south of Ukraine are now returning, both to towns controlled by the administration in Kiev and land seized by Russian militaries, according to Euronews. Testimonies propose the returnees prefer the risks of living at home to the doubt of displacement.
In line with Euronews’ Russian-language service “Tens of thousands” of Ukrainians who were evacuated from the Donetsk area at the beginning of the war have since returned.
As said by the mayor of Pokrovsk, some 70 percent of the refugees have recently returned to the city, which is on the land seized by Ukraine but claimed by the Donetsk People’s Republic.
“We were fed, there was food, but it was temporary. And then we were told to go to a nursing home. My son did not want to,” Tamara Markova, who is 82 years ago, said to the channel.
