(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) CAIRO, July 22 (KUNA) -- President of the Federal Republic of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud, attending the East African Community (EAC) Summit in Arusha, Tanzania, presented his country's official application to join the regional grouping on Friday.
In his address to the opening session of the summit, President Mahmoud said his nation made great efforts over the last years to join the bloc, according to the Somali National News Agency (SONNA).
Somalia has huge natural resources, including rich mineral, and fauna and flora resources that could add to the EAC, he noted, highlighting the importance of EAC full membership for his country. (end)
