Doha: The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change officially named the dugong (sea cow) that was recently rescued in Qatar 'Ocean', making it the first dugong with a name in the region.

The Ministry announced the rescue of 'Ocean' on Tuesday in Khor Al Adaid in cooperation with two Qatari environmental activists Khalifa Omar Saleh Al-Hamidi and Ahmed Saad Al-Fayyadh Al-Khalidi.

Ocean was then transferred to the Fuwairit area (sea turtles project) where ponds are equipped for raising young turtles.
