AMMAN — A government meeting with international partners on Tuesday reviewed the Kingdom's steps towards political modernisation and enhancing partisan life, and reaching an effective parliament where youth and women play a key role.
During the meeting, held at the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation, stakeholders reviewed the programmes the government is implementing with the concerned institutions to move forward with the modernisation process, according to a ministry statement.
The Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Minister of Youth and Minister of State for Legal Affairs, President of the Independent Election Commission (IEC) and Secretary General of the Political and Parliamentary Affairs Ministry represented the government.
During the meeting, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Nasser Shraideh said that political modernisation in Jordan is moving forward as per the Royal vision to reach“a qualitative leap” in the political sector and parliamentary life and lay the foundation of an effective partisan life.
Shraideh also highlighted the role of media outlets in enhancing political participation, partisan life, democratic practices and boosting the participation of the youth, women and persons with disabilities.
IEC President Mousa Maaytah said that the commission has launched a national campaign to shed light on the recent constitutional amendments, the elections and the political party laws, with the aim to expand political participation, mainly among youth and women.
The attending international partners, including ambassadors and the representatives of international organisations, praised 'the serious steps' that the Kingdom has adopted in the political modernisation process, which aim to expand the popular base in decision making.
