Switzerland refuses Ukrainian demand for Russian assets
(MENAFN) Switzerland stated that the Ukrainian suggestion to seize billions worth of frozen Russian assets would create a dangerous precedent.
Leader Ignazio Cassis informed journalists in Lugano on Tuesday while joining a conference aimed to bolster aid to Ukraine “You have to ensure the citizens are protected against the power of the state. This is what we call liberal democracies.”
Ukrainian Premier Denis Shmygal earlier said that Western administrations should seize USD300-USD500 billion of frozen Russian assets and direct them TO Ukraine’s bounce back from the war.
On the words of the Ukrainian premier “We believe that the key source of recovery should be the confiscated assets of Russia and Russian oligarchs.”
Cassis, but, underlined that the “right of property is a fundamental right,” and that “seriousness” is needed in the roundtable about Russian funds planned by the West.
