US, China hold virtual meeting to talk about worldwide economy, commodity costs, food security


(MENAFN) In line with the agency US Treasury Secretary, Janet Yellen hosted a virtual conference with China's Vice prime minister Liu He to talk about the worldwide economy, commodity costs as well as food security.

On Monday, it announced that "During the candid and substantive conversation, they discussed macroeconomic and financial developments in the United States and China, the global economic outlook amid rising commodity prices and food security challenges."

It also noted that "Secretary Yellen frankly raised issues of concern including the impact of Russia’s war against Ukraine on the global economy and unfair, non-market PRC (People’s Republic of China) economic practices."

The meeting was part of US leader Joe Biden management’s works to sustain open lines of discussion, it added.

The US had an exchange shortage of over USD34.9 billion with China in April as well as USD112.7 billion in the January-March period of this year, in line with the US Census Bureau as well as the Bureau of Economic Analysis.
