Sydney residents force to leave due to escalating floods in Australia

(MENAFN) Officials stated on Tuesday, in and around Australia's largest city, hundreds of homes have been submerged in a flood emergency that is affecting 50,000 people.

According to State Emergency Service manager Ashley Sullivan, emergency response teams in the Sydney region performed 100 rescues of persons stuck in automobiles on flooded roads or in flooded houses over the course of one night.

Days of heavy rain have prompted dams to overflow and rivers to overflow, causing the metropolis of 5 million people to experience its fourth flood emergency in 16 months.

Overnight, the state of New South Wales declared a disaster affecting 23 regional administration districts, triggering financial aid from the federal government for flood victims.

Baswd on the New South Wales Premier Dominic Perrottet, 50,000 people were affected by evacuation orders and warnings to get ready to leave their homes, up from 32,000 on Monday.

Perrottet also mentioned that “this event is far from over. Please don’t be complacent, wherever you are. Please careful when you’re driving on our roads. There is still substantial risk for flash flooding across our state.”
