(MENAFN) It's official -- the Minions are here. Universal and Illumination's "Minions: The Rise of Gru" is blowing up fireworks at the Fourth of July box office, estimating a USD129.2 million opening throughout the four-day holiday weekend coming 4,400 sites.
On a three-day scale, the "Despicable Me" movie seeks to get an income of USD109.4 million -- that figure would indicate the biggest local opening for an animated movie since 2019's movie "Frozen 2," signifying a huge jump back for family-friendly fare after sanctions because of the coronavirus epidemic.
The Illumination production took off to a quick-tempered USD10.75 million in Thursday showings, firstly setting projections for the long holiday weekend in the amount of USD65 million up to USD75 million. "The Rise of Gru" is now almost 100% higher than those projections.
Should the "Minions" sequel achieve its present estimation, the film is going to break the Fourth of July weekend box office all-time high.
