Euro area producer prices surges 36.3pct in May


(MENAFN) As shown by the bloc's statistical authority on Monday Industrial producer prices witnessed a rise of 36.3 percent in the euro area as well as 36.4 percent in the EU area.

Eurostat stated in an announcement that on a monthly basis, costs rose 0.7 percent in the euro area and 0.8 percent in the 27 members’ bloc.

The energy was once again the major aspect behind the increase in costs, which almost doubled up in both zones in comparison to a year ago.

The bloc's statistical authority stated that "Industrial producer prices in the euro area in May 2022, compared with May 2021, increased by 94.4 percent in the energy sector, by 25.0 percent for intermediate goods, by 12.3 percent for non-durable consumer goods, by 9.1 percent for durable consumer goods, and by 7.5 percent for capital goods."

Eurostat pointed to a 16.0 percent rise in whole industry costs apart from energy.
