US will provide upgraded surface-to-air missile systems to Ukraine

(MENAFN) The US said it will deliver two NASAMS surface-to-air missile systems, four counter-artillery radars, and around 150,000 rounds of 155mm artillery ammunition to Ukraine to help it combat the Russian incursion.

The Pentagon confirmed on Friday that the extra materiel will be included in the current US support package for Ukraine, which was unveiled by US President Joe Biden at a NATO summit and is likely to total $820 million.

According to reports, the package revealed on Thursday would also contain extra ammo for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS).

The US expects that its current support will strengthen the Ukrainian resistance as Russia continues its campaign of long-range missile assaults on Ukrainian cities and a string of Russian victories on the ground in eastern Ukraine.

Russia has focused its offensive on the eastern Ukrainian provinces of Donetsk and Luhansk, intending to persuade Kyiv to abandon its dreams of regaining control of them from Russia.
