(MENAFN) Stuart Broad, England's premier bowler, set a new, if unwelcome, record by allowing 35 runs in a Test over against India at Edgbaston.
Stand-in India skipper Jasprit Bumrah scored 29 runs off the bat in Broad's over, which also contained five wides and a no-ball hammered for six.
The previous record for most runs scored in a Test over was 28, which had been accomplished three times in the format's 145-year existence.
India was 377-9 at the start of the 84th over, with tailender Bumrah on strike in place of usual skipper Rohit Sharma, who was ruled out with COVID-19.
Bumrah hit the opening ball of the over for four off a top edge, and the following bouncer flew over wicketkeeper Sam Billings' head for five wides.
Then followed the six-run no-ball off another top edge, for a total of seven runs.
Broad's next delivery, a full toss that was nearly a no-ball due to height, was blasted past mid-on for four.
India passed 400 with an edged four to fine leg before Bumrah lifted himself off his feet and blasted another boundary.
