(MENAFN) Oscar Pistorius has visited with the father of his deceased ex-partner Reeva Steenkamp.
The South African athlete, known as Blade Runner because of his famed racing prostheses, shot and murdered his then-partner, Ms. Steenkamp, at their house, saying he mistaken her for an intruder.
He was convicted in 2015 following a televised trial and sentenced to 13-and-a-half years in prison.
A lawyer for the Steenkamp family has now stated that Pistorius met with the model's father as part of his parole application.
Tania Koen confirmed the encounter in a text message, saying the duo met face-to-face on June 22 as part of a South African process known as victim-offender dialogue.
The procedure allows victims of crime to speak with criminals before they are eligible for parole.
Ms. Koen highlighted in her message, "The dialogue is a private and confidential matter; hence we ask that our clients' privacy be respected."
"A word of sincere gratitude to the Department of Correctional Services, especially the staff at St Albans Prison, for facilitating the process in a sensitive and professional manner."
