Al Tamimi Wins Singles Title At West Asian Championships

Tehran: Qatar's Abdulla Al Tamimi won the men's singles title in the West Asian Squash Championship, after beating Iran's Ali Reza Shamali 3-0 in the final in Tehran, Iran, yesterday.

Al Tamimi started the tournament with an easy victory over his Iraqi counterpart Abdullah Hashem in the round of 16 and went on to beat Iranian Muhammad Ziyad Kashani by three clean sets, to qualify for the semi-finals. In the last-four stage, Al Tamimi defeated Kuwaiti Ammar Al Tamimi 3-0.

Tariq Zainal, Secretary-General of the Qatar Tennis, Squash and Badminton Federation, said that Al Tamimi's victory is a new Qatari achievement that reflects the level of ambition and determination of the player. 

Al Tamimi expressed his happiness after winning the gold medal, saying that it was an honour to represent Qatar. The 27-year-old also added that this victory will serve as a strong motivation for him to achieve more honourable results in the upcoming events.

The team competitions in the West Asian Championship will start today. Team Qatar consist of Al Tamimi, Sayed Azlan Amjad, Ahmed Al Tamimi and Abdul Rahman Al Maliki.
