Srinagar- The Jammu & Kashmir State Road Transport Corporation(JKSRTC) has made necessary arrangements to ply 500 buses across J&K for the smooth travel of the pilgrims arriving to Kashmir for the Amarnath Yatra pilgrimage.
The buses have been deployed at six different routes including Jammu-Pahalgam and vice-versa, Jammu-Baltal and vice-versa , Srinagar-Baltal and vice-versa, Srinagar-Pahalgam and vice-versa, Airport-Baltal and vice-versa and Airport-Pahalgam and vice-versa.
Talking to Kashmir Observer, Habibullah Reshi(GMO), Nodal Officer Yatra, Kashmir Division said that 250 buses have been deployed for daily operations and rest are kept as reserve.“We've deployed a total of 500 buses for the Amarnath Yatra pilgrims this year. Out of the 500, 250 are kept for daily travel and 250 have been kept as a reserve stock,” Habibullah Reshi told Kashmir Observer.
The official further added that JKSRTC has deployed about 54 buses on Wednesday for the first batch of pilgrims.“Each bus contains about 42 seats. 8 buses have been deployed on the Airport route. Depending on the need of the bus, the department may also increase the number of buses if required,” the official said, adding that 40 separate buses from different routes have been deployed for the smooth travel of Government employees.
Pertinently, three different variants of JKSRTC buses have been deployed for the pilgrims. This includes A/C Buses, Deluxe buses and Semi-Deluxe buses.
However, a Jammu based JKSRTC official wishing anonymity said that“until the Yatra concludes, the Government employees in the Jammu division may face a curtailment of bus services”.
JKSRTC has five separate booking counters in Jammu Division. This includes Shri Amarnath Ji Yatri Niwas in Bhagwati Nagar, Rameshwari Mandir, T.R.C Jammu, Railway Station Jammu and General Bus Stand Jammu.
Pertinently, the department has also erected four booking counters in Kashmir Division which includes counters at Nunwan Pahalgam, Baltal Sonamarg, Srinagar Airport and TRC Srinagar.
