LOCAL POETS PERFORM ON D’REESHA STAGE

(MENAFN- Qatar Foundation ) Doha, Qatar,June26, 2022: Three Qatari poets – Radhi Al Hajri, Ahmad Al Muftah, Abdulrahman Al Dolaim, and oudist Ali Nakuzi– took to the D’reesha Stage to perform Arabic poetry and music at the Arabic Poetry Night.

The D’reesha Stage, part of Qatar Foundation’s performing arts festival called D’reesha, is a pop-up variation that givesa platform to the arts communities in Qatar to perform and engage with fellow artists.

Ameera Al-Aji, Head of Community Arts Department at Qatar Foundation (QF) and a member of the organizing team of D’reesha festival, believes it is important to reach out to the community and welcome them to share their art in the hopes of promoting local arts andculture, and the Arabic language.

“The success of the D’reesha Stage was due to the diversity of the works presented, and the passion of the artists, which is an important factor in the continuity and success of the festival. D’reesha aspires to showcase more talents from our community. We seek to help creative people develop their talents and create an artistically educated society that is familiar with Arab culture first, and then the global culture.

“As a leading member of QF’s Community Arts, I believe that the arts are one of the most important reasons for societies to thrive. Today, art is an important element to opening many closed doors towards cultures, history, and science,” said Al-Aji.

Many countries give importance to their local arts and culture, and topoet Al Hajri’s understanding, poetry and music is embedded in Arab culture. “We are not the first in technological advancements or industrial developments. What makes our region, and Arabic communities, special is that art and poetry come naturally to us. The Arabic language is not only meant to convey information and facts, but also morals and ethics.”

Hosted by Nada Bahzad, the creatives got into a conversation about what sparked their passion and led them to finding their unique styles.

“Sometimes we find a figure or an artist that has reached a great level in their art, and their hard work and determination can inspire and motivate you. For me, I found it very useful to constantly read, which helped to broaden my horizons when working on my poetry. That was the best advice I received,” said Al Muftah.

“It’s important to get a lot of support and it starts from family. I remember my friends in Lebanon had great talents which were neglected by not practicing. My advice to parents is to nurture their children’s talents, especially during their teenage years,” said Nakuzi
Throughout the night, the audience were entranced by the poetry and oud sounds, which created a serene atmosphere in the Black Box theatre.

Omar Allouba, a member of the audience and previous D’reesha performer, found it to be an educational experience. “The event has definitely exposed me to Arabic poetry as someone who is not very familiar with it. I also learnt a lot about the oud, how it has a whole language, and that with different variations of notes, you can create different moods.”
