(MENAFN) One of Iran's largest steel firms claims to have thwarted a cyberattack aimed at the country's critical industrial sector.
Amin Ebrahimi, CEO of Khuzestan Steel Company, stated on Monday that the mill was able to repel the hack and avert structural damage to production lines, which would have impacted supply chains and consumers.
"Fortunately, with time and awareness, the attack was unsuccessful," Ebrahimi told Mehr, adding that he anticipated things to be back to "normal" by the end of Monday.
According to Jamaran, a local news program, the attempt failed because the facility was closed due to an electrical failure at the time.
A cyberattack on Iran's gasoline distribution network attacked gas stations around the country last year. Officials have previously blamed the United States and Israel.
The United States and Israel are generally suspected of being behind the first state cyber terrorism in the late 2000s, when the Stuxnet computer virus destroyed some of Iran's centrifuges at the country's nuclear plants. Iran has since unplugged a large portion of its government equipment from the internet.
