Yankees defeated A's thanks to two catcher's interference calls

(MENAFN) If the Yankees surged back in their two comeback triumphs against the Astros, it appeared on Monday night that they fought and clawed — a slow burn victory to go with so many exclamation points.

By their standards, at least a slow burn.

After falling down by four runs in the third inning, the Bombers battled back and pounced on a series of Oakland errors to finish a 9-5 win against the Athletics in Monday's opening game, their 23rd come-from-behind victory of the season and their fourth straight.

When the Yankees' rally reached a climax in the seventh inning, it wasn't because of a home run, but because of a pair of catcher's interference calls on Sean Murphy. The Yankees' first hit of the inning was a two-run double by Josh Donaldson, giving them a 6-5 lead.

Prior to that, four hitters reached on a walk, catcher's interference, a hit by pitch, and a second catcher's interference, which resulted in a run that looked like it belonged on a Little League field.
