Doha: The Qatar Chess Training Center will host the second edition of the Open Blitz Chess Championship, which will kick off on Thursday.
The organisers have received a large number of entries for the competition, which will be held in several age groups, according to the Swiss system, 5 minutes + 3 seconds. Valuable prizes are up for grabs for outstanding participants of the event.
Yousef Muhammad Al Mutawa, Secretary General of the Qatar Chess Federation, who will also participate in the tournament, said that holding such events is an important step to create a generation aware of the sport and chess skills.
“The tournament is expected to be full of clubs in its second edition. We have received a large number of entries and the federation is looking forward to an exciting competition. We wish all the best to the participants,” he said.
He added:“The tournament will be held monthly, on the last Thursday of every month, and it is considered a refresher for people who play the game and allows everyone to participate in it.”
