After the no vaccination fiasco at the Australian Open, things are not looking different for Novak Djokovic at the US Open. The US Open organizers have stated that they will not permit participants who are not vaccinated to compete. Djokovic disclosed on Sunday that he is still unvaccinated. He will not be permitted to compete in the US Open because of existing regulations prohibiting unvaccinated foreign individuals from entering the country.

Djokovic said,“As of today I am not allowed to enter the States under these circumstances”.“I am aware of that and that is an extra motivation to do well here, and hopefully I can have a very good tournament as I have done in the last three editions,” he said.

No vaccination, No US Open

“Then I will just have to wait and see. I would love to go to the States. But as of today that is not possible,” he said in an interview with talkSPORT.“There is not much I can do anymore. It is up to the US government to make a decision whether or not they allow the un-vaccinated people to go into the country.”

Djokovic won the US Open in 2011, 2015, and 2018. He has 20 Slams under his belt, two less than his former nemesis Rafael Nadal. He missed the chance to complete a calendar Grand Slam last year after losing to Daniil Medvedev in the New York final.

The 35-year-old said he is now looking toward winning the Wimbledon for the seventh time. Djokovic's win would tie him with Pete Sampras and put him second only to Roger Federer; who has won eight All England Club championships.
