Top EU official accuses Russia of playing risky “Hunger games”

(MENAFN) Russia’s risky “Hunger games” is exclusively accountable for the worldwide food catastrophe, European Council leader Charles Michel stated at the G7 conference on Sunday.

Leaders of the world's seven richest countries met in Germany for discussions on further restrictions on Russia and the medium- and long-term rebuilding of Ukraine.

Throughout a press meeting at the summit, Michel stated the Kremlin is using food as a "silent weapon of war."

He stated "We must vigorously counter Russia’s propaganda about food and fertilizer prices," also stating that the EU is backing the UN's efforts to reopen maritime ways in a way that also addresses Ukraine’s security worries.

He stated that worldwide creativities for food security are also being backed "The EU is working to mobilize nearly €600 million (USD634 million) to support the most affected partners."

Michel mentioned that "With G7 countries, we all share the same goals: to cut the oxygen from Russia’s war machine while taking care of our economies. The EU will stand by Ukraine for the long haul."
