(MENAFN- KNN India) CBIC issues guidelines on import ban on plastic products from July 1

New Delhi, June 24 (KNN) The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) recently issued instructions regarding import ban on products made from plastics from July 1, 2022.

The manufacture, import, stocking, distribution, sale and use of following single use plastic (SUP), including polystyrene and expanded polystyrene, commodities shall be prohibited with effect from July 01, 2022, reads the notification released by Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change (MoEFCC).

It further stated that carry bag made of virgin or recycled plastic should not be less than one hundred and twenty (120) microns in thickness with effect from the December 31, 2022.

Trade bodies have called this sudden restrictions highly disruptive for the trade and industry.

They have urged the government to implement the ordered ban in a phased manner with a clear time extended time table so that traders can plan accordingly.

Delhi based trade body CAIT has suggested forming a task force comprising senior officials and stakeholders to draw out a timeline for implementation of the order and to explore plastic alternatives. ( KNN Bureau)
