(MENAFN) Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev claimed on Thursday that the current generation of European politicians is substantially inferior to those who ruled the continent a few decades ago.
Unlike the politicians of old, these "technocrats" lack the backbone required to make decisive decisions and stand up to the US, he asserted.
“I don’t mean to offend anyone, but it’s obvious to everyone that Mario Draghi is no Silvio Berlusconi and Olaf Scholz is no Angela Merkel,” Medvedev posted on social media, comparing the current and former leaders of Italy and Germany.
“The political class of people, who embodied powerful political movements and in some cases entire eras, was replaced with puny individuals who call themselves technocrats,” he stated.
The Russian official, who is now the deputy chair of the National Security Council, stated that he had directly watched the replacement of the old guard over his tenure. Previously, Europeans had the courage to act and face the consequences if they were incorrect. He believes that while the present generation is capable of ruling, they lack the mentality to assume personal responsibility.
