(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) RIYADH, June 22 (KUNA) -- The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary General Dr. Nayef Al-Hajraf and UK International Trade Secretary Anne-Marie Trevelyan announced on Wednesday the launch of negotiations for a free trade agreement between the regional bloc and the European island nation.
In a press statement by the GCC General Secretariat on Wednesday, Al-Hajraf underlined the significance of the move which demonstrates a common desire to strengthen strategic ties that serve both sides' interests.
The announcement was made following a meeting between GCC commerce ministers and UK Secretary Trevelyan at the Saudi capital, Riyadh.
Kuwait was represented at the meeting by Minister of Commerce and Industry Fahad Al-Shareaan. (end)
