(MENAFN) Ukraine should not anticipate a fast track to EU membership regardless of there being an agreement on allowing it candidate status, as warned by French Secretary of State for European Affairs Clement Beaune.
Updating the host of France’s Europe 1 radio station, Beaune announced there was “total consensus” among EU members that Ukraine is qualified to become a candidate country. The official said that he anticipated this to be officially “confirmed on Thursday and Friday.”
On June 23-24, the chiefs of state and administration of all 27 nations including the EU will meet in Brussels, with the membership offers of Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia high on the schedule.
The French official hurried to caution, on the other hand, that “it’s a long process, Ukraine will not be a member of the European Union tomorrow morning.”
