Major flood is expected to devastate China's Pearl River valley

(MENAFN) The Ministry of Water Resources of China issued a warning on Saturday to prepare for catastrophic flooding that is anticipated to reach south China's Pearl River region on Monday.

Recent rains in the Pearl River basin have caused water levels in the area's main rivers, including the Xijiang, Beijiang, and Hanjiang rivers, to increase.

On Saturday, the Ministry of Civil Affairs launched a level IV emergency response for the provinces of Zhejiang and Anhui in order to avert flooding in the country's south.

It also conducts level III rescue efforts for Guangdong and Guangxi, as well as level IV response for Fujian, Jiangxi, Hunan, Guizhou, and Yunnan.

Six working groups have been dispatched to impacted regions to guide flood control efforts.

China has a four-tier emergency flood-control response plan, with level I being the most serious.
