Global Parliamentary Conference Kicks Off In Istanbul


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT, June 20 (KUNA) -- The Global Parliamentary Conference kicked off in the Turkish historic city of Istanbul on Monday; attended by Kuwait National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Ali Al-Ghanim.
'Al-Dustoor' news network, the tongue of the Kuwaiti parliament, said Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the event sponsor, addressed the conferees by television, calling for global cooperation to find just solutions to the plight of refugees.
Among the key participants is Dr. Mustafa Sentop, Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkiye, speakers of parliaments of IPU members, deputies, experts, academics and representatives of non-governmental organizations working on migration.
Al-Ghanim is partaking in the conference in response to an invitation by his Turkish counterpart, Dr. Sentop.
Kuwait has been a key donor country aiding the refugees namely Syrians since years back.
The event is themed 'Parliaments and the Global Compacts on Migration and Refugees: How to Bring About Stronger International Cooperation and National Implementation.' It is organized with the collaboration of the Grand National Assembly of Turkiye (GNAT) and the IPU. It is scheduled June 20-21. (end)
