QNL To Review Image Of Arabs In Cinema

(MENAFN- Gulf Times)

Qatar National Library, in co-operation with the French Institute in Qatar and the Doha Film Institute, will present a lecture titled“The Image of Arabs in Cinema and Western Journalism” on July 3. French journalist of Algerian origin, Suleiman Zguidour, will present a review on the development of the image of Arabs in Western cinema and press, local Arabic daily Arrayah reported.
At the beginning of the 20th century, the portrayal of Arabs in emerging cinema was positive and somewhat romantic. It was centred on the image of the valiant Bedouin. This picture then deteriorated, starting from the last quarter of the 20th century in the early sixties, when the Arab and Islamic peoples gradually gained their independence from France and Britain, Arrayah added.
